NORTHUMBERLAND, PA – Susquehanna Valley Taxi Service is the first taxi company in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania granted the right to use an app based technology in place of traditional taxi meters and have a flexible rate structure.

SV Taxi owner, Chris Peifer explains “The app based system, similar to national ride-sharing services, allows our customers to schedule a ride, watch the taxi’s location in real-time and pay the ride fare all from the convenience of their smart phone.” He continues “The flexible rate structure allows us to offer promotional discounts to our clients based on the number of rides as well as other cost saving features.” The app software also benefits the taxi drivers by providing them with more accurate gps and mapping information.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), implemented ACT 85 of 2016, in response to the changing transportation industry. In a press release from the PUC, Commissioner John F. Coleman released this statement, The PUC has continued its comprehensive examination of how the PUC’s regulations and legislative directives address the dramatically changing landscape in the transportation industry. Consumers benefit when they have more options, and we are pleased to see providers make use of new technology and opportunities to improve service.” The full press release can be found on the PUC website, www.puc.state.pa.us.

The app, SVTAXICABS, can be downloaded for free through the i-tunes store or Google Play. The taxi service can also be arranged traditionally by calling 570-701-1300 and can be paid for with cash or credit card.

Susquehanna Valley Taxi began services to patrons within Northumberland, Snyder, and Union counties in February 2017. It’s operating hours are Monday through Thursday 7am – 9pm, Friday through Saturday 7am – 12am, and on Sunday 10am-6pm.
